The new Shalom Home for Girls in Batlagundu is going up despite the pandemic. Only local workers are working there, but they are making tremendous progress. There is quite a bit more to do, but hopefully the girls will be able to move in soon after completion. Children are still quarantined in their villages with family, friends, or neighbors.

In late February, U.S. physicians Drs. Kristin DeHaven and Chris Meinzen, along with Canadian physician Dr. Ernest Hahn traveled to India to teach the ladies of the Bethania Staff and community members in Kodaikanal about women’s health initiatives. Local physicians Drs. Isak and Ruby Samuel as well as Mrs. Selva Soraja from the local community participated as well. A day of education was included for the girls of the Bethania Homes and Care Centers in the region. The ladies had many questions during the Q and A time which were answered by the panel. The local providers are keeping up with the initiative in the future.

Ground was broken in Batalgundu for the new Shalom Home for Girls on May 3, 2019. Work will begin on the building as soon as permits are obtained. A campaign has been going on for some time to build the building, now the really fun part begins! Furniture and fixtures are needed to complete the dream. If you, your church, or your civic group would like to help, there is a list of needed items at the end of this article. Many items are necessary for a home for children at various price points. Can you or your group help these girls move out of the small rental building they currently live in? Contact us at if you can help furnish this home.
