My parents emigrated from India and I have visited relatives in India numerous times as a child and adult. On one particular trip to India in my early twenties, I visited my cousin’s factory which made cotton shirts and other clothing. I noticed children about 10 – 11 years old working cutting out cloth patterns. They had no sparkle in their eyes as they were burdened with working at least 10 hour days to support their families. My heart was heavy and I vowed to do something to help the children of India enjoy childhood and have an opportunity to get an education rather than be relegated to menial labor and lost hope.
In James 1:27 it is written that “religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”
God planted the seeds in my heart many years ago to do His will for the distressed and orphaned children of India. I joyously and passionately serve knowing that our mighty God will use us to accomplish his great works!
