Cilpajodi and Dholdholi
The state of Odisha (Orissa) is one of the very poorest states in India. Our two care centers, Cilpajodi and Dholdholi, are located in tribal areas where 4 out of 5 people live below the poverty line, which is defined as earning $1 per day. There has been very little investment in infrastructure. Things we take for granted such as running water, electricity and ubiquitous cell phone towers are conspicuously missing. There are no paved roads. The small villages are reachable only after an arduous journey via 4WD vehicles–if the rains hold off! God has truly blessed us with the opportunity to serve some of His most needy children with these two ministries!
Here we provide the 50 children attending each of our centers with academic and Christian education, health care, nutritious meals and uniforms. Our staff also reaches out to the families with classes such as basic hygiene, first aid and nutrition. All-day early childhood care is provided as well as after-school care.
The Care Centers for Cilpajodi and Dholdholi have been completed! The communities are so proud of the work their people did to help these centers come to fruition. The whole community uses the buildings in the evenings for community events. The children and the entire community benefits.
When the staff was asked by our Past President, Ravi Srinivasan, what inspires them in their work, their response was the gratification in seeing how the skills and knowledge gained by the children in Bethania’s care positively impacts their entire families.
- Parents are learning the importance of hygiene – where to position latrines and to wash hands before eating
- Some parents are now drinking less alcohol
- A few families have started going to church regularly
We are serving the families and community with resources, education, vocational training, health care, early childhood day care and after school care as well as women’s empowerment programs.
We ask that you join us in prayer that our ministries at Cilpajodi and Dholdholi reveal God’s grace and love as we care for His most deserving and desperate children.
