Other Ways to Give
There are several ways to donate to Bethania Kids:
-
Donating stocks or mutual fund shares that have appreciated in value and been held for more than one year offers tax advantages for donors. Your gift can support Bethania Kids while eliminating capital gains taxes on the securities transferred. How to Make Gifts of Stock, Mutual Funds and other Securities Stocks and securities can be transferred to The Bethania Foundation (our legal name) by sharing the following information with your investment manager or broker:
- The Bethania Foundation’s brokerage account: Thrivent
- Federal Tax ID Number: 36-3557140
- Account number: TY9-001295
- Broker DTC number: 0226
Since electronic transfers can be made without identifying the donor, please contact us in advance at 800-993-5179 or info@bethaniakids.org if you plan to make a gift of stock.
Once the transfer is complete, we will provide you with a tax receipt with the shares’ total value on the date we received the funds and other transfer information.
If you are 70½ or older, you can take advantage of the potential tax savings of making gifts directly from your IRA to an eligible non-profit, such as Bethania Kids. Also known as qualified charitable distributions (QCDs), these gifts can satisfy all or part of your minimum distribution up to an inflation-adjusted limit established by the IRS, but they are not considered taxable income. In this way, a gift from your IRA can reduce your taxable income even if you don’t itemize. It is also not subject to the deduction limits on charitable gifts for donors who do itemize.
Contact your IRA plan administrator directly to make a gift from your IRA to Bethania Kids. You will need to provide the following information:
- Our legal name: The Bethania Foundation
- Federal Tax ID Number: 36-3557140
- Address: PO Box 2140, Winchester, VA 22604
The investment manager can include a letter with any specific instructions you may have as to where the gifts are directed. It is also helpful if you contact us at info@bethaniakids.org to let us know you are making a gift directly from your IRA. Once the gift is received, we will provide you with the appropriate tax receipt.
Please consult with your financial advisor to determine what is best for your specific circumstances.
Bethania Kids can be part of your lasting legacy by supporting our ministry through bequests, endowments, and naming beneficiaries. We and the children and families we serve are grateful for your support.
Supporting Bethania Kids through a Bequest
Bequests outlined in your will can support The Bethania Foundation (PO Box 2140, Winchester, VA 22604) at the time of your passing. Regardless of your income, a will more easily directs the dispersal of your estate as you wish. For example, you can gift a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate or a designated asset (e.g., stock, a house, property, etc.). You can also designate a residual request that directs The Bethania Foundation to receive the remainder of the estate after all expenses are paid and other bequests have been made.
Name The Bethania Foundation as a Beneficiary.
If you have a life insurance policy, you can designate The Bethania Foundation as a beneficiary. IRAs and other qualified retirement plans do not pass directly through your will and require you to name a beneficiary. You can also name The Bethania Foundation as a beneficiary for certificates of deposit (CDs). By giving to Bethania Kids in this way, a donation that would have been taxable income is no longer taxable.
If you have made a gift to The Bethania Foundation (Bethania Kids) through your estate or would like more information about legacy gifts, please contact us at 800-993-5179 or info@bethaniakids.org.
Educational Endowment We established The Founder’s Legacy, an Education Endowment, during our Comprehensive Campaign Caring for God’s Children. The donated funds will accrue separately, and the proceeds will be directed to education. If you are interested in setting up a legacy endowment supporting education, please contact us 800-993-5179 or info@bethaniakids.org.
Donor-advised funds have become a popular way to give. A donor-advised fund is like a charitable savings account from which donors can recommend grants to non-profit organizations, such as Bethania Kids. These accounts are created through sponsoring organizations such as the charitable arms of financial service firms or community foundations. We recommend contacting your financial advisor if you would like to set up a donor-advised fund.
The following information may be helpful when making a donation through your donor-advised fund:
- Our legal name: The Bethania Foundation
- Federal Tax ID Number: 36-3557140
- Address: PO Box 2140, Winchester, VA 22604
Feel free to contact us at 800-993-5179 or info@bethaniakids.org if you need more information on making a donation to Bethania Kids from your existing donor-advised fund.
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable donations made by their employees. This is a great way to increase the impact of your donation. Bethania Kids has received matches from GlaxoSmithKline, Optum, Humana, Polaris, Thrivent, and Toyota. Please consider checking to see if your employer offers a matching gift program, and feel free to contact us at 800-993-5179 or info@bethaniakids.org if you need more information.
