The virus in India is still raging though there have been limited cases among our children and staff. We previously shared the loss of Isaac Eduman, the director of the Dayavu Home for Boys from COVID-19. A replacement for that position is being sought at this time. Our three physicians on the North American Board of Directors have been communicating with staff in India to emphasize the importance of vaccinations and all other virus related protocols. Staff in turn, have shared their knowledge with the families and villages of the children. 95% of our staff have been vaccinated at this time. We are now helping to facilitate vaccines for families of our children, women in our programs, and the communities where our Care Centers are located.
Our COVID-19 relief fund started a few months ago has raised $40,000 of the $118,000 goal. The priority items, masks, PPE, vaccination support, food distribution and emergency hospitalizations have been covered. At this time, the needs are increasing community vaccinations, nutritional support, continuing hospitalizations, as well as making sure all of the BK sites are ready and able to handle the return of children. Funds are still needed to make sure all protocols can be followed at our sites as some states in India will be allowing children to return soon.
